Developed over several years (2010- 2015) and presented in different site-specific configurations across multiple exhibitions, the works draw inspiration from the notion of "haunted paintings"—typically older artworks said to exhibit paranormal behavior—as well as from an ongoing reflection on the medium of painting itself.
Some pieces depict imagery with overt or subtle paranormal elements; others are composed in ways that render the image uncanny or disquieting, regardless of subject matter. In both cases, the effect is one of visual and emotional disturbance, evoking the ambiguity of perception and belief.
The title "Haunted" also refers to painting as a persistent and inescapable presence—one that, despite cycles of marginalization, continues to assert itself within contemporary artistic discourse. The series took shape during a period in which painting, in the Italian context, was often viewed as outdated or insufficiently contemporary. The series positioned itself in critical dialogue with that climate, reclaiming painting not as a gesture of nostalgia, but as a mode of expression so intrinsic to human nature that it inevitably resurfaces—often like a repressed phantom—precisely where it has been forgotten or suppressed.
